What do you use the original Dr HDMI for?
Dr HDMI is primarily an EDID and handshake tool: it makes the capability profile the source sees predictable.

PC and HTPC
A PC may change its desktop layout, audio output or display detection when an HDMI sink disappears. The Dr HDMI can present a fixed EDID so the graphics card keeps seeing a consistent sink. Bank 8 is handy for capturing an existing display profile; banks 6/7 are suitable for your own profile.

Projector and home cinema
Projectors and AVRs can take relatively long to power on and sync. By fixing the EDID in front of that changing chain, the source doesn't have to react to a different capability set every time. This mainly helps when diagnosing source→AVR→projector configurations.

Splitters, switches and AV distribution
In distribution systems, sinks can report different resolutions and audio formats. An EDID manager gives the source one predictable profile. Always choose a profile that is supported by the rest of the chain.

Bank 4
Maximum 720p, no 3D. A strong first diagnostic bank.
Bank 5
480/576p, no 3D, for older or very critical equipment.

System integrators
Banks 6 and 7 can be modified with the PC software. This lets an installation have a fixed EDID that does not depend on the current state of the sink. The source keeps talking to a controlled capability profile.

A good fit
