EDID stands for Extended Display Identification Data. It is the capability information a display or HDMI chain passes to a source. A source uses that information to choose, among other things, resolution, timing and audio.
Why does EDID sometimes cause problems?
In a simple source → television connection the route is short. With an AV receiver, switch, splitter, extender or projector, capabilities can change when equipment is switched on or off. As a result the source may renegotiate, choose a different video mode or temporarily see no usable EDID.
What does Dr HDMI do?
The Dr HDMI places a controllable EDID point between the source and the rest of the chain. You can use a fixed preset, program your own profile into bank 6 or 7 or copy the EDID of the connected display to bank 8.
The eight EDID banks
Which bank when?
With an unknown compatibility problem, a conservative bank is useful to test whether the chosen video mode is the cause. If you want to hold on to the real capabilities of one display, use bank 8. For fixed installations, banks 6 and 7 can hold your own profile.
